Do’s and don’ts of online gambling

Gambling, whether online of offline is, has been and always will be, a much debated topic.

In this article we want to elaborate on that and give a list of do’s and don’ts for the the people that are new to gambling and are maybe not yet aware of the possible dangers associated with gambling.

To be clear, personally I have played very few casino games or placed bet on (sport) events. I have in the past, and might do it again in the future, but in general it is not a form of entertainment that I enjoy so much that I want to spend my money on it. With that said, I do understand the rush and excitement that goes with the game and have spent a couple of very enjoyable nights in a casino and playing casual poker at home and online.

With that said, I think gambling is just like any other form of entertainment. It’s a way for someone to enjoy their free time. And just as many other things, it comes with risks, just like going out, consuming alcohol, play video games, enjoying food, sports, etc.

Any sane person who makes his or her own money can enjoy gambling, as long as it’s done responsible. And to play responsible basically means to stick to the following:

Do’s when it comes to gambling online

  • Do your homework. There are a couple of things that are just fact and you should always keep them in mind, namely:
    • the house always wins
    • RTP are statistics and do not imply a max amount of losses
    • bonuses are there to let you play longer, not to win more.
  • Play at licensed providers
  • Make sure you know the law of the country where you are, and from which you are a legal resident. Those things are not always the same. For example, for a resident of the UK it might be legal, but playing online on you mobile while in Indonesia or Saudi Arabia, is still illegal and punishable.
  • Create an account with your real credentials. You won’t be able to cash out any winnings if you don’t.
  • Set limits. Accidently gambling too much is not the same as accidently drinking too much or binge watching too long. The next morning your sanity my have come back, but your money won’t.
  • Read the terms and conditions. Most complaints that the customer support receives are from people who didn’t.
  • I you have been playing a lot, do a self assessment check

Don’ts when it comes to gambling online

  • Don’t play with any money other than you own
  • Don’t play with money that you can’t miss. So first pay your bills and put money aside for savings, and then set a budget and play only with that money.
  • Don’t play to win. Play to have fun
  • Don’t use VPN. Most casinos don’t allow it and will use it as a reason not to pay out any winnings.
  • Don’t try to compensate any loosings. If you think, “One more bet, than i’ll stop”, than it already is time to stop.
  • Don’t play while using substances. It clouds your judgement and you are more likely to cross boundaries and have regrets.

As long as anyone sticks to this list, most people will have a good time gaming and are not threat to themselves or to others.
